Growing up, one of my favorite desserts was mint chocolate chip ice cream. Whenever my parents took me out for ice cream or picked some up from the grocery store, I had to have the mint chocolate chip. 

Since then, I’ve grown up and realized mint chocolate chip ice cream isn’t the healthiest to eat all the time. But the child in me still wants to get that fix. So the next best bet is mint chocolate chip protein powder. 

I’ve tried a lot of mint chocolate chip protein powders. In fact, it’s been a real search to find the best one. And I will share my top 10 best mint chocolate chip protein powders with you in this article. And don’t worry. If you’re vegan, I’ve included plant-based options for you as well.

Best Overall: Transparent Labs 100% Whey Isolate Mint Chocolate

If you read any of my content where I talk about whey protein, you’ll constantly see me rave about Transparent Labs Whey. 

I love Transparent Labs Whey Protein because it is one of the cleanest, if not the cleanest, whey protein powders on the market. You see all the ingredients in the product clearly listed on the label. And there aren’t many. The ingredients used are:

  • Pure grass-fed whey isolate
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Natural flavor
  • Sodium chloride 
  • Stevia

You won’t see many whey proteins with 5 ingredients listed. And to top it off, you won’t see many protein powders with minimal ingredients that still taste good. But this one does. It tastes great, actually. 

Sometimes in these mixtures of mint chocolate, the flavors can be too strong or too weak, but this one is the perfect mixture of chocolate and mint, in my opinion. It also mixes well and goes down smoothly.

Anyway, I love Transparent Labs, but I’ll avoid rambling too much. To round it out, in each serving, you get 120 calories, 28 grams of protein, 0 grams of fat, 1 gram of carbs, and less than one gram of sugar. It’s an overall, good clean formula you can fit into any diet plan. 

Runner Up: Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Chocolate Mint

Next up, we have Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. This is the OG of whey protein powders. If you’ve been working out for some time and haven’t heard of Gold Standard, I’d be surprised. 

This is another solid mint chocolate flavor. Flavor-wise, I like it just as well as Transparent Labs. However, this is the runner-up because the ingredients aren’t as clean. You have a handful of extra added ingredients in this one that you don’t get with Transparent Labs. 

However, if budget is a concern, Gold Standard is easier on the wallet. You can usually get it for around $1 per serving or even lower than that if you buy in bulk. So at that price and getting a good flavor, you can’t go wrong with this one. 

To round things out, here’s the nutrition you get per serving:

  • 130 calories
  • 24 grams of protein
  • 2 grams of fat
  • 3 grams of carbs
  • 1 gram of sugar

This one packs less of a punch in protein per serving compared to Transparent Labs, and the nutrition isn’t as clean. But for the price, I’m not complaining. 

Best Vegan: Vega Organic Chocolate Mint

Vega Plant-Based Mint Chocolate

If you’re vegan or just want to reap the benefits of a plant-based protein powder, get ready. This one’s for you. 

It’s hard to find a good-tasting plant-based protein powder. Believe me. I’ve tried a lot of them. But Vega Organic’s Chocolate Mint has a very satisfying taste. It’s not as good as the two whey protein options I listed above. That said, this is the best I’ve found if you’re looking for a vegan chocolate mint. 

Sometimes I like to go with a plant-based protein because whey can make me feel a bit bloated. So this one comes in handy when I need that chocolate mint fix. It mixes pretty well and is a good blend of chocolate and mint flavorings. 

The protein is sourced mainly from peas, with some pumpkin seed and sunflower seed protein as well. It’s 100% vegan-certified and organic. 

As for the nutrition per serving, you get:

  • 150 calories
  • 20 grams of protein
  • 5 grams of fat
  • 10 grams of carbs
  • 1 gram of sugar

It’s not the cleanest nutritionally, but I assume the little bit of extra fat and carbs per serving are what makes this one taste better than other vegan options. So I’m more than happy to compromise on it not being the purest powder for the added taste on this one. 

Best for Bulking: Syntha-6 Whey Coldstone Mint Mint Chocolate Chip

Syntha-6 Mint Mint Chocolate Chip Protein Powder

As far as taste is concerned, this one is awesome. I’ve always loved Coldstone’s Mint Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I used to get it all the time as a kid. Even now, when I have a cheat day, it’s one of those things I’ll go out and get. 

While no protein powder will taste like Coldstone ice cream, this one is still delicious. However, I’m listing this as the best for bulking because you have to compromise on the calories per serving to get the added flavor-filled goodness. 

In each serving, you get:

  • 200 calories
  • 22 grams of whey protein
  • 6 grams of fat
  • 15 grams of carbs
  • 3 grams of sugar

22 grams of protein per 200 calories isn’t the best for a whey protein powder. So if you’re looking for the most efficient protein intake per calorie, this one’s not it. That said, I would not hesitate to use this one when I’m bulking and looking to get those extra calories in. 

Overall, I love this protein powder if you want to relive some memories of Coldstone’s Mint Mint Chocolate Chip without the guilt of eating the real thing. You really won’t go wrong with Syntha-6. 

Best for Cutting: MyProtein Impact Whey Chocolate Mint

MyProtein Chocolate Mint

Kind of the opposite of the previous one, if you want the lowest calories per serving on this list, MyProtein’s Chocolate Mint is the way to go. However, I would not say it’s the most efficient in protein content per calorie on this list. That title would go to Transparent Labs. You’ll see why when I give you the nutrition info in a bit. 

As far as flavor goes, I really enjoyed this one. It has a nice smooth flavor and mixes well. Although, the chocolate overpowers the mint a bit too much in this one. So it’s not necessarily the minty chocolate goodness I’ve always dreamed of. But it’s still a very good option. 

For the nutritional value, in each serving, you get:

  • 100 calories
  • 18 grams of protein
  • 1.5 grams of fat
  • 3 grams of carbs
  • 1 gram of sugar

With this one, you get the benefit of low calories per serving. Every calorie counts when you’re cutting, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this one to fit into strict macros. 

However, Transparent Labs is still more efficient. With Transparent Labs Whey, you get 28 grams of protein per 120 calories. So it just packs a bit more of a protein punch to make use of those daily macros. 

That said, I overall really like MyProtein’s Chocolate Mint Whey. Plus MyProtein as a company is an excellent option because they reliably source all of their ingredients to ensure high-quality products. 

Isolate and Hydrolysate Mix: Rule 1 Mint Chocolate Chip

Speaking of protein content per calorie, Rule 1’s Mint Chocolate Chip also fits the bill quite nicely. 

Rule 1 Whey Protein is a combination of whey protein isolate and whey protein hydrolysate. Whey hydrolysate is essentially the same thing as hydrolyzed whey protein. What isolate and hydrolysate bring to the table are that they’re extra-filtered protein powders, meaning they have a higher protein content per scoop. 

The protein per scoop rivals Transparent Labs, although Transparent Labs does perform better and has a cleaner ingredient profile. But Rule 1 is still a great option. 

As far as flavor, this one is good. Although, I like some of the other ones on this list a bit better. The type of mint they used tastes a bit off to me. But it’s still a good flavor overall. 

For the nutrition per serving, you get:

  • 110 calories
  • 25 grams of protein
  • 0.5 grams of fat
  • 2 grams of carbs
  • 1 gram of sugar

Overall, it’s a clean nutritional profile and protein dense. If you ever feel bloated from whey, going with an extra-filtered hydrolysate/isolate mix like this one may help. 

Thickest Texture: Nutraone Protein One Whey Mint Chip Ice Cream

I found Nutraone’s Mint Chip Ice Cream flavor to be an interesting option. When you mix it, you’ll find it has a thicker texture than other options on this list. It’s almost like a protein shake right out of the box without combining it with anything else. 

That said, while I liked the texture a lot, the flavor isn’t my favorite on this list. It also has a ton of added ingredients in the formula. There are too many for me to even want to try listing them out. Overall, it tastes decent but isn’t the exact mint-to-chocolate ratio I would hope for. It’s a bit too bland. That’s the best way I can put it. 

As far as nutrition per serving, you get:

  • 130 calories
  • 24 grams of protein
  • 2 grams of fat
  • 3 grams of carbs
  • 3 grams of sugar

Nutritionally, it’s pretty clean. You get a good amount of protein per serving while limiting fats, carbs, and sugar content. If you mix this one in a protein shake with other ingredients, the naturally thick texture can add a good element to it. So for that sake, this one’s still not a bad option. 

Low Carb: Jocko Molk Mint Chocolate

Jocko Molk’s Mint Chocolate whey powder is marketed as a keto-friendly option, and it does fit that mold quite nicely. You only have 1 carb per serving. That said, if you’re looking for low-carb, I’d still go for Transparent Labs over this one because their whey is a bit cleaner in terms of the ingredient profile. 

As for Jocko Molk’s Mint Chocolate flavor, I really enjoyed this one. It’s pretty tasty for a low-carb whey protein powder. It’s a nice mix of chocolate and mint. That said, I would say others higher up on this list tasted a bit better. 

Nutritionally, you get a good deal. Their whey is made using milk from grass-fed cows, just like Transparent Labs. However, this whey is a bit less filtered since it’s a mix of concentrate and isolate. In comparison, Transparent Labs is pure whey isolate, which is a bit higher quality. 

For the nutrition per serving, you get:

  • 110 calories
  • 22 grams of protein
  • 2.5 grams of fat
  • 1 gram of carbs
  • Less than 1 gram of sugar

It’s a pretty good deal nutritionally overall. If you want a low-carb solution that isn’t Transparent Labs, this one’s a good bet. 

Superfood Protein: KOS Mint Chocolate Pea Protein

KOS Organic Chocolate Chip Mint

The KOS Mint Chocolate Pea Protein is marketed as a “superfood protein.” Those claims are mainly because it contains ingredients like flax seed, a fruit and veggie blend, and some added vitamins and minerals. 

Will those help much? Probably not a ton. But getting a few extra micronutrients in your protein shake won’t hurt you. 

As far as the flavor is concerned, this one isn’t my favorite. I liked the previously mentioned vegan option, Vega Organic, much better. This one has a bit more of an “earthy” texture that is common with pea protein powder. It also doesn’t mix as well as Vega Organic. 

Nutritionally, per serving, you’ll get:

  • 160 calories
  • 20 grams of protein
  • 6 grams of fat
  • 10 grams of carbs
  • 2 grams of sugar

It’s not the most protein-dense or cleanest in terms of nutrition. And I also like Vega Organic much better. The one advantage is this one’s a pure pea protein powder with some added micronutrients for additional health benefits. 

Pea and Brown Rice Blend: PEScience Mint Chocolate

We’ve made it to our final Mint Chocolate protein powder on the list: PEScience Pea and Rice protein blend. 

I particularly like that this one combines pea and brown rice protein. Some could argue that combining these types of proteins is better because you get a more well-rounded amino acid profile. Brown rice protein powder tends to fill in the gaps where pea protein is deficient and vice versa. 

As far as flavor, I still like Vega Organic better than this one as well. This one also has a bit of that “earthy” texture. It also doesn’t mix quite as well. You’d probably want to blend it into a protein smoothy to get the best mint chocolate drinking experience. 

That said, where this one does a bit better is the nutrition. It’s much more protein dense per calorie than the other vegan options. So if you’re on a cut and value every single calorie, this may be a good choice.

  • 20 grams of protein
  • 1.5 grams of fat
  • 5 grams of carbs

If you’re willing to make some concessions on taste, this one’s a pretty good deal overall.
